The Courtship Bureau (“we,” “us,” “our”) is a private matchmaking service based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, serving members across Canada. We are committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of every person who contacts us, applies to us, or becomes a member.

THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Depending on your relationship with us, we may collect:

a) When you make an enquiry or submit a request through our website:

  • Your name, email address, telephone number
  • Your city and province
  • Your age range
  • Any information you choose to share about what you are seeking

b) When you proceed toward membership:

  • Detailed personal information gathered through our intake process, which may include your background, values, faith, family situation, relationship history, lifestyle, preferences, and what you are seeking in a partner
  • Government-issued identification, for the purpose of identity verification
  • Information required to carry out a background check
  • Payment information (processed by our payment provider — see Section 6)

c) Automatically, when you visit our website:

  • Standard technical data such as browser type, device, and pages visited, collected through cookies and analytics (see Section 9)

We collect only the information we need to provide our service. We do not collect personal information “just in case.”

WHY WE COLLECT IT

We use your personal information only for these purposes:

  • To respond to your enquiry and arrange an initial conversation
  • To understand you well enough to provide thoughtful matchmaking
  • To verify your identity and conduct background checks, so that every member can trust who they are introduced to
  • To make and manage introductions between members
  • To process payments for memberships and services
  • To communicate with you about your membership
  • To meet our legal and regulatory obligations

We will not use your information for any new purpose without first obtaining your consent.

CONSENT

We collect, use, and disclose your personal information only with your consent.

  • You provide consent when you submit information to us and agree to this Privacy Policy.
  • Before we conduct a background check, we will obtain your specific, written consent.
  • Before your identity or information is shared with another member as part of a proposed introduction, we will obtain your agreement.
  • You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide our service to you.

HOW YOUR INFORMATION IS SHARED

Your privacy is central to our service. We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone, for any reason.

We share your information only in these limited circumstances:

  • With another member, ONLY as part of an introduction, and ONLY with your prior agreement. Your contact details are never shared without your knowledge.
  • With our background-check provider, solely to verify identity and conduct screening, and only with your written consent.
  • With our payment processor, solely to process payments.
  • With professional advisors (such as our lawyer or accountant) where necessary, under confidentiality obligations.
  • Where required by law, such as a valid court order or legal obligation.

All third parties who handle personal information on our behalf are required to protect it to a standard consistent with this policy.

PAYMENT INFORMATION

HOW LONG WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION

  • While you are an active member, for the duration of your membership.
